Music, Travel and Memories

Simon was my Step Dad. I grew close to him over 25 years and we did so much together in that time: Holidays to Spain, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Days out to cool places such as air shows or car shows, gigs or historical places. He called himself "an honoury Geordie" spending his teenage years in Middlesbrough and training as a Dentist in Newcastle in the late 1960's. He set up a practice in St Albans in the 1970's. I often joked with him that he "knew a little bit about everything" and a passing comment would set off a discussion between us about history, religion, movies, music, comedy, science, medicine....His passion was flying, having spent some of his childhood on an RAF base in Cologne, Germany and he was a keen amateur pilot. He encouraged me to play drums again, while he taught himself guitar and we would spend hours jamming, thinking we were good but knowing we probably sounded awful.😂 All these memories have come flooding back to me over the last couple of days and I can't quite believe he has gone. Thanks for the memories Si, for the life lessons, for including me in all that you did and for being such a good Step Dad xx
